Software Engineer (Insurance Core Systems) – Entry Level

You'll build and ship features that real users touch every day, for a fintech start-up in Stellenbosch. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

Home base is a fintech start-up on the Stellenbosch side of Western Cape. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Handle personal data safely, with POPIA rules in mind
• Join daily stand-ups and sprint planning
• Write unit and integration tests before you merge
• Investigate production bugs using logs and monitoring dashboards
• Design database tables and write efficient SQL queries
• Build and consume REST or GraphQL APIs
• Pick up tickets from the sprint board and estimate the work

• You can explain technical choices to non-technical people
• Experience writing automated tests
• A computer science or IT qualification, or a portfolio that proves you can build
• Commercial experience in at least one of PHP, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript
• Stable internet and a quiet workspace for remote days
• Solid Git habits: branches, pull requests and meaningful commit messages

• Knowledge of secure coding and the OWASP Top 10
• Public GitHub portfolio or published app
