Stope Team Leader (Platinum Mine)

Have a blasting certificate and a clean safety record? The deep-level gold mine near Sandton needs your crew leadership. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a deep-level gold mine on the Sandton side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate

• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act

• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Medical aid and mine medical station access

• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
