Store Detective (Retail Loss Prevention)

Blend in, watch closely and act lawfully: that is loss prevention at an electronics store in Stellenbosch. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

You'll report in Stellenbosch. Relocation is not covered for this one. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Check receiving bay deliveries against invoices and seal numbers
• Tag high-value stock and check security tags at the doors
• Walk the floor in plain clothes and watch for shoplifting behaviour
• Search staff bags at exit points according to store policy
• Record every incident with photos, times and value of goods
• Help with stock counts and point out loss hot-spots
• Review CCTV footage to confirm suspected theft

• Available for retail hours including month-end weekends
• Matric or equivalent NQF Level 4
• Good report writing
• Knowledge of lawful arrest and search under the Criminal Procedure Act
• Discreet, observant and honest
• Able to handle confrontation calmly

• Retail loss prevention course
• Experience giving evidence in court
• Previous store detective experience with case outcomes

• Retail trading hours, no night shift in most stores
• Staff discount at the retailer
• Plain clothes work (no uniform in detective roles)

• Keep your appearance low-key for the interview. Detectives need to blend in with shoppers.
• Show you know the legal limits of search and arrest. A single unlawful arrest can cost a store badly, so they will ask about it.
