Job Description

Winter fire season is near, and an eucalyptus plantation near Burgersfort needs crews ready. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Burgersfort-based, with most of your time spent at an eucalyptus plantation.

The work, day to day

Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks

What you need

Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Valid ID

Nice if you have

Previous plantation or sawmill experience
Chainsaw operator certificate
