Toolmaker (Press Tools & Moulds)

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the cement plant in Alberton. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Location: Alberton, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine

• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop

• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
• CNC programming experience
• Forklift licence for moving heavy parts

• Tool allowance
• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Shift and standby allowances

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
