Toolmaker (Press Tools & Moulds) – Fixed-Term

Bearings, gearboxes, pumps and lathes: this cement plant in Pietermaritzburg needs your hands on them. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll report in Pietermaritzburg. Relocation is not covered for this one. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely

• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Shift and standby allowances
• Tool allowance

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
