Toolmaker (Press Tools & Moulds) – Experienced

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the cement plant in Roodepoort. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a cement plant in Roodepoort. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns

• CNC programming experience
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants
• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses

• Shift and standby allowances
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
