Job Description

Every hour a truck stands still costs money. This agricultural equipment dealer in Soweto needs a mechanic who can fix it quickly. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is an agricultural equipment dealer on the Soweto side of Gauteng. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

The work, day to day

  • Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles
  • Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
  • Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule
  • Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
  • Repair hydraulics on tippers, cranes and tail-lifts
  • Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
  • Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system

You'll need

  • Diesel mechanic trade test certificate
  • Solid understanding of air brake systems
  • Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs
  • Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits

What's in it for you

  • Standby and call-out allowance
  • Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop
  • Provident fund and funeral cover

How to apply

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): Code 14 licence and PrDP plus ID copy with a recent certification stamp.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 6 working days.

How2Apply recruits for this position on behalf of hiring employers around Soweto; applications go into our talent pool and shortlisted candidates are introduced directly.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

How to stand out

  • Mention roadside or field experience. Many fleets need mechanics who can work alone at a breakdown.
  • Your Code 14 is a big plus. Put it right below your name, not at the bottom of the CV.
