Truck Mechanic (Fleet Workshop)

You'll service and repair heavy diesel vehicles for the municipal bus depot in Stellenbosch. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a municipal bus depot on the Stellenbosch side of Western Cape.

• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters
• Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck

• Diesel mechanic trade test certificate
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits

• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles
• Hydraulic systems training

• Provident fund and funeral cover
• Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop
• Standby and call-out allowance

• Mention roadside or field experience. Many fleets need mechanics who can work alone at a breakdown.
