Good service at a beachfront cocktail bar in Umhlanga starts with you: friendly, quick and on top of every order. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a beachfront cocktail bar on the Umhlanga side of KwaZulu-Natal. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Set tables, polish cutlery and glasses, and check condiments before doors open.
• Carry plates to the right seat without auctioning food at the table.
• Clear, wipe and reset tables fast during the Friday and Sunday rush.
• Greet guests, seat them and hand over menus within a minute of arrival.
• Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.

• At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
• Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure
• You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
• Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts
• Grade 10 or higher; matric is a plus

• A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans
• Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
• A barista course certificate or latte-art skills

• Staff meal on every shift
• Paid menu and wine tastings so you can sell with confidence
• Uniform supplied and laundered
