Yellow Machine Mechanic (Earthmoving Plant)

The municipal bus depot in Benoni needs a trade-tested diesel mechanic for workshop and field work. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

The work is in Benoni, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines
• Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles

• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines
• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs
• Diesel mechanic trade test certificate

• Auto electrical skills
• Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses
• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles

• Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop
• Standby and call-out allowance
• Overtime available most weeks
