Artisan Fitter (Conveyor Maintenance)

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the cement plant in Tembisa. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a cement plant in Tembisa. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects

• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
