Job Description

You'll service, diagnose and repair cars in a busy used car dealership workshop in Johannesburg CBD. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at an used car dealership workshop in Johannesburg CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

The work, day to day

  • Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
  • Carry out scheduled services to the manufacturer's checklist and interval
  • Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
  • Diagnose engine, ABS and airbag faults with an OBD-II diagnostic scanner
  • Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts

You'll need

  • At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
  • Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
  • Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
  • Your own basic toolbox

Helpful, not essential

  • Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration
  • High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training

What you get

  • Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer
  • Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
  • Productivity bonus on sold hours above target
  • Tool allowance or tool insurance

Applying, step by step

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: driver's licence plus trade test certificate.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 9 working days, usually by phone.
