Bookkeeper to Trial Balance (Sage Pastel)

Recons that balance and suppliers who get paid right: that's the job at a small accounting practice in Stellenbosch. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll report in Stellenbosch. Relocation is not covered for this one. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Run petty cash and file slips with proper supporting documents
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation
• Post month-end journals for accruals, prepayments and depreciation
• Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear unallocated items
• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed

• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• Matric with Accounting
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas

• Office hours with no weekend work
• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Hybrid work after probation at some practices

• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
