Bookkeeper to Trial Balance (Sage Pastel)

You'll keep the books clean and up to date for a small accounting practice in Vanderbijlpark. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is in Vanderbijlpark (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review
• Capture supplier invoices and customer receipts on Sage or Xero
• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days
• Post month-end journals for accruals, prepayments and depreciation
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation
• Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear unallocated items

• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• Matric with Accounting
• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details

• Hybrid work after probation at some practices
• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Office hours with no weekend work
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams

• Say how far you take the books, for example "to trial balance" or "to management accounts"; it tells recruiters your level.
• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
