Bricklayer's Assistant

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a road rehabilitation project in Stellenbosch can keep building. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is Stellenbosch-based, with most of your time spent at a road rehabilitation project.

• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines

• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Grade 8 or higher
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket

• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
