Job Description

Court runs, drafting and client consultations: a legal aid office in Umhlanga will put you to work from week one. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is in Umhlanga (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

What your day looks like

Record your time on the practice management system every day
Keep matter files updated and diarise court dates and deadlines
Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim
Appear in the magistrate's court on postponements and unopposed matters
Research case law and legislation on SAFLII and Juta or LexisNexis
Take instructions from clients and write clear attendance notes

Must-haves

Clear criminal record, as required for admission
Good legal research and clear written English
Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC
Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
Willing to work late before trials and filing deadlines
