Job Description

Power has to be safe, reliable and legal. The municipal electricity department in Cape Town CBD needs you to make it so. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll report in Cape Town CBD. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What your day looks like

Review PLC and SCADA logic for process control and alarms
Set and test protection relays and keep settings records
Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion

What you need

Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate
At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites

Extra points for

Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)
Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
Protection or HV operating authorisation
