Cashbook and Recon Clerk

A construction contractor in Midrand needs a bookkeeper who closes the month on time, every month. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a construction contractor on the Midrand side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Post month-end journals for accruals, prepayments and depreciation
• Capture supplier invoices and customer receipts on Sage or Xero
• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation
• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days
• Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review

• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details
• Matric with Accounting
• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas

• Experience with debt collection letters and handover to attorneys
• Registered with SAIPA or the ICB as a bookkeeper

• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Office hours with no weekend work
• Hybrid work after probation at some practices

• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
