Job Description

Collections at a municipal accounts office in Brakpan is about firm, fair conversations and steady numbers. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is in Brakpan (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

The work, day to day

Send written arrangements by SMS or email straight after each call.
Update debtor contact details from tracing searches.
Report daily on rands collected, contacts made and arrangements set.
Dial through your arrears book on the auto-dialler and confirm the debtor's identity.
Negotiate payment arrangements and set up DebiCheck mandates.
Track broken promises-to-pay and follow up within 48 hours.

You'll need

At least 6 months in collections, sales or a call centre
Clear credit and criminal record
Good with numbers, dates and payment calculations
Target-driven and comfortable with commission
Registered, or willing to register, with the Council for Debt Collectors

Nice if you have

A second South African language
Experience on a collections system such as Debtmaster or a dialler platform
Knowledge of the NCA and prescription rules
