Construction Manager (Mid-Rise Buildings)

Keep the programme on track, the subbies busy and the site safe for the low-cost housing developer in Potchefstroom. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll report in Potchefstroom. Relocation is not covered for this one. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Measure completed work for monthly payment certificates
• Check reinforcing, shuttering and cover blocks before calling for a pour inspection
• Chair the weekly site meeting and record actions for the principal agent
• Order concrete, bricks and steel on time so gangs never stand idle
• Coordinate subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, roofing and glazing
• Draw up snag lists and close them out before practical completion

• You can read architectural and structural drawings and pick up clashes
• Working knowledge of the Construction Regulations 2014 under the OHS Act
• National Diploma or BTech in Building or Civil Engineering, or a trade background with site experience
• At least 5 years on building or civil sites, 2 of them in a supervisory post

• Surveying skills with a total station
• Concrete technology short course
• SACPCMP registration as a Construction Manager or Candidate

• Site accommodation on out-of-town projects
• Vehicle allowance or company bakkie
• Cellphone and laptop supplied
• Project completion bonus linked to handover date

• Add a short project table to your CV: project name, type, rand value and your role. Contractors hire on project size.
• A common mistake is listing only company names. Say what you built, for example "32 walk-up flats, 3 storeys".
