Cost Estimator (Shopfitting)

Make sure every rand on site is counted, claimed and certified for the main building contractor in Potchefstroom. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Home base is a main building contractor on the Potchefstroom side of North West. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules
• Update cash flow forecasts for the project manager
• Take off quantities from drawings to build a bill of quantities
• Get quotes from subcontractors and compare them line by line
• Value variations and prepare claims under JBCC or GCC conditions
• Use measuring software to do take-offs from PDF and CAD drawings
• Track budget against actual cost and flag overruns early

• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work
• BSc, BTech or Diploma in Quantity Surveying
• At least 3 years of QS work in private practice or with a contractor
• Understanding of JBCC Principal Building Agreement clauses
• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify

• Honours degree in Quantity Surveying
• Experience with civil bills using the SANS 1200 standard
• Estimating software experience on top of Excel

• Travel allowance for site visits
• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses
• Hybrid days in the office and on site
• Study support for an honours degree

• List projects with their contract value and whether you worked for the client side or the contractor side.
• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
