Construction Worker (Bricklaying Assistant)

Put your trade to work on the shopping centre extension in Harrismith, with steady work for the length of the project. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Harrismith-based, with most of your time spent at a shopping centre extension. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer

• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test

• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
