Songs, stories, sandpits and routines: help a primary school aftercare programme in Mthatha give children a strong start. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

This post is Mthatha-based, with most of your time spent at a primary school aftercare programme. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Prepare simple, nutritious snacks and keep the kitchen hygienic
• Run morning ring with songs, weather and counting
• Chat to parents at drop-off and pick-up about how the day went
• Feed, change and settle babies and toddlers on their routine
• Set up daily learning areas for art, blocks, reading and fantasy play
• Follow the NCF daily programme and adapt it for each age group

• Experience caring for children in a group setting, even as a volunteer
• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners
• Matric
• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one
• Paediatric first aid certificate

• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
