Grade 00 Class Teacher (Private Pre-School)

Little ones at a primary school aftercare programme in East London learn through play, and you'll set up that play. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll be based at a primary school aftercare programme in East London. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Feed, change and settle babies and toddlers on their routine
• Help aftercare learners with homework and reading
• Chat to parents at drop-off and pick-up about how the day went
• Prepare simple, nutritious snacks and keep the kitchen hygienic
• Clean and sanitise toys, mats and tables at the end of the day
• Follow the NCF daily programme and adapt it for each age group

• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one
• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners
• Clear Form 30 child protection check and police clearance
• Experience caring for children in a group setting, even as a volunteer
• Matric
• Paediatric first aid certificate

• Speak more than one home language of the children you'll teach
• Basic music, art or movement skills for group activities

• Short holiday closures over December and Easter

• Put your ECD level and first aid certificate in the first lines of your CV; creches check these before anything else.
• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
