Development Miner (Hard Rock)

You'll lead a crew safely through drilling, blasting and cleaning at the mechanised hard-rock mine near Benoni. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

Home base is a mechanised hard-rock mine on the Benoni side of Gauteng. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast

• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act

• First aid certificate current
• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning

• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Pension fund with employer contributions

• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
