You'll keep a retired couple's cottage in Ballito clean, calm and running smoothly for the family. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Home base is a retired couple's cottage on the Ballito side of KwaZulu-Natal. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry

• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Good with children and patient
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines

• Non-smoker
• Basic first aid or child CPR course

• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Transport money for live-out staff
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
