Estate Housekeeper (Large Home)

You'll keep a retired couple's cottage in Umhlanga clean, calm and running smoothly for the family. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Home base is a retired couple's cottage on the Umhlanga side of KwaZulu-Natal. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Clean windows and patio doors once a week
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Change bed linen and make beds

• South African ID or valid work permit
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Good with children and patient

• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• A driver's licence for school lifts
• Experience caring for an older person

• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Transport money for live-out staff

• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
