Electrical Engineering Technologist (Substations)

Power has to be safe, reliable and legal. The electrical consulting engineering firm in Prospecton needs you to make it so. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is Prospecton-based, with most of your time spent at an electrical consulting engineering firm. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Investigate power quality problems with a power analyser
• Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
• Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works
• Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion
• Keep single line diagrams and as-built drawings up to date
• Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
• Size cables, transformers and protection using design software

• Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
• At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
• BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
• Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
• ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate
• Able to write clear technical reports and specifications

• Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
• Protection or HV operating authorisation
• PLC programming certification

• Paid professional registration and training
• Vehicle allowance for site work
• Flexible hours on design days

• List projects with their voltage level, size in kVA or MW, and whether you designed, supervised or commissioned.
