Mechanical Fitter (Shutdowns)

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the beverage bottling plant in Richards Bay. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll report in Richards Bay. Relocation is not covered for this one. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors

• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop

• CNC programming experience
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants

• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Tool allowance
• Shift and standby allowances

• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
