Electrician (Mine Plant & Shafts)

You'll keep machines, conveyors and shafts running at the platinum mine engineering department near Sandton. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a platinum mine engineering department on the Sandton side of Gauteng. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Isolate and lock out machines under the site isolation procedure
• Take part in weekend shutdowns for major overhauls
• Test and maintain flameproof electrical equipment in coal sections
• Order spares and track them through the engineering store
• Maintain pumps, fans and compressors in shafts and on surface

• Trade test certificate in your trade (diesel mechanic, fitter, electrician, boilermaker, instrumentation or rigger)
• Certificate of fitness for underground or surface work
• Able to read schematics, hydraulic circuits or wiring diagrams
• Understands MHSA duties for artisans, including lockout and permits

• Study assistance for engineering qualifications
• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Housing support in the mining town
• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay

• State your trade and the machines or equipment you know best, for example "fitter: conveyors, crushers and pumps".
• Mention underground or flameproof experience clearly. It separates mine-ready artisans from factory artisans.
