Job Description

Hard outdoor work on a school building project in Benoni, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The work, day to day

Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches

What you need

Willing to start early, often at 06:30
A clean record is preferred for some government sites
Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
Prepared to travel between sites in the area
Grade 8 or higher

What you get

Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
Paid weekly or fortnightly
Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
