Enrolled Nurse (Surgical Ward)

A hospice in-patient unit in Ermelo needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

The site is in Ermelo; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal

• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts

• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Uniform supplied
• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres

• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
