Staff Nurse (Night Shift) – Immediate Start

You'll give hands-on nursing care at a hospice in-patient unit in Secunda, working alongside registered nurses. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Secunda-based, with most of your time spent at a hospice in-patient unit.

• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose

• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends

• Dementia care or palliative care short course
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Overtime paid at time and a half

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
