Job Description

Plan inspections, lead investigations and build a safer shift culture at the gold tailings retreatment operation near Montague Gardens. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

Home base is a gold tailings retreatment operation on the Montague Gardens side of Western Cape. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

The work, day to day

Help run emergency drills and check refuge bays
Check that crews do planned task observations and pre-shift checks
Inspect workplaces underground and on surface against the MHSA and the mine's standards
Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
Review baseline and issue-based risk assessments with section managers

What you need

SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification
Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it
Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine
Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property
Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit

Nice if you have

Mine rescue training
Occupational hygiene registration with the relevant council
Diploma or degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health
