Forestry Worker (Plantation Planting)

Timber keeps rural towns working, and a sawmill near Bellville is hiring crews. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a sawmill in Bellville. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
• Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily

• Available for early starts and fire-season standby
• Valid ID
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Willing to work in remote areas

• Crew transport to plantations

• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
