Frail Care Assistant (Retirement Village)

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a home-based care agency in Vanderbijlpark. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is in Vanderbijlpark (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse

• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care

• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
