Head Waiter (Family Restaurant)

This is a floor job at a hotel restaurant in George where your tips follow your service. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The work is in George, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Clear, wipe and reset tables fast during the Friday and Sunday rush.
• Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.
• Greet guests, seat them and hand over menus within a minute of arrival.
• Pull espresso shots and steam milk for flat whites and cappuccinos.
• Split bills, process card payments and handle tip-outs at the end of shift.
• Set tables, polish cutlery and glasses, and check condiments before doors open.
• Check back two minutes after mains land and fix problems on the spot.

• Quick with basic maths and card machines
• Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts
• Happy to work nights, weekends and public holidays
• You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
• You can stand and walk for a full 8-hour shift

• A barista course certificate or latte-art skills
• Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
• A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans

• Staff meal on every shift
• You keep your own tips, paid out daily or weekly
• Late-shift lift home within a set radius

• Walk in with your CV between 2pm and 4pm when managers have time, not during lunch or dinner service.
