HVAC Service Technician (Office Buildings)

The cold chain logistics company in Newcastle needs an HVAC technician who knows both the electrical side and the refrigerant side. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is in Newcastle (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Recover refrigerant into cylinders and log every kilogram used
• Service cold rooms, display fridges and freezers on planned maintenance routes
• Complete service reports on a tablet and have the site manager sign them
• Diagnose faulty compressors, fans, contactors and control boards
• Install split units, cassettes and ducted systems, including brazing and vacuum work
• Commission new systems and show the client how to use the controls
• Pressure test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum and charge with R410A, R32 or R134a

• Refrigeration and air-conditioning trade test or an NQF 4 occupational certificate
• Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat
• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate
• At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road

• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns
• Gauge manifold, vacuum pump and recovery unit issued to you
• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges
• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack

• Say which refrigerants and system types you have worked on. A recruiter for supermarket work wants to see CO2 or large rack systems.
• Mention whether you are comfortable on standby. Most service jobs in this trade include it.
