Hybrid and EV Technician (Light Vehicles)

Good with a scan tool and a torque wrench? This used car dealership workshop in Bethlehem needs you in a bay. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is Bethlehem-based, with most of your time spent at an used car dealership workshop. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Diagnose engine, ABS and airbag faults with an OBD-II diagnostic scanner
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Carry out scheduled services to the manufacturer's checklist and interval
• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering
• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign

• Code 08 licence so you can road test cars
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4

• High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training
• Automatic gearbox or DSG repair experience
• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy

• Staff discount on parts and services
• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Tool allowance or tool insurance

• Attach manufacturer training certificates. They can move you up a technician grade and pay band.
• Put your trade test date and the car brands you know best at the top of your CV.
