ICU Registered Nurse (Day Shift)

Bring your SANC registration and your ward experience to a private hospital surgical ward in Pietermaritzburg that needs a steady pair of hands. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Pietermaritzburg-based, with most of your time spent at a private hospital surgical ward. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls

• Clean criminal record
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
• Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly

• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• Unit manager or shift leader experience
• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work

• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation

• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
