Machine Assistant (Plastics Moulding)

Good factory hands stay for years, and this meat processing plant in Umhlanga trains from day one. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Umhlanga (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Wear hairnets, beard covers and gloves in food-safe zones
• Change over packaging film and labels when the line switches product
• Check product for size, weight and seal faults and pull out rejects
• Hand over at shift change with notes on rejects and stoppages
• Follow lock-out procedures when helping with cleaning inside machines
• Weigh ingredients or additives against the recipe card

• Available for rotating day and night shifts
• Basic reading and counting for batch sheets
• No problem wearing full PPE, including ear protection
• Medically fit; some food plants ask for a medical check
• You follow hygiene rules without being reminded
• Able to stand for a full shift in a noisy, warm area

• A food handler or basic HACCP awareness certificate
• NQF Level 2 manufacturing learnership completed

• Company transport on some night shifts
• Free PPE, overalls and hairnets
• Path to machine operator after six months
• Staff shop with discounted factory products

• Name the products you worked on before, like "biscuit line" or "juice bottling". Factory recruiters read that faster than a job title.
• Do not wear jewellery or long nails to the interview if it is on site. Food factories notice and it counts.
