Mechanical Fitter (Shutdowns)

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the plastics injection moulding factory in Mbombela. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

The site is in Mbombela; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS

• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Shift and standby allowances
• Tool allowance
• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
