Order Picker (Cold Store)

Pick it right, pack it neat, send it out: that's the job at a frozen-food distribution centre in Potchefstroom. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Potchefstroom-based, with most of your time spent at a frozen-food distribution centre. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Unpack returned parcels and sort them into resell or write-off
• Wear thermal gear and rotate in and out of freezer zones on schedule
• Replenish empty pick faces from overstock racking
• Pack cartons, add fillers and seal them with tape guns
• Report damaged, short or expired items to the shift supervisor
• Pick orders from pick slips or a handheld scanner, bin by bin
• Count stock during weekly cycle counts and month-end stock takes

• South African ID or a valid work permit
• Grade 10 or higher; matric preferred
• Punctual, with reliable transport home after late shifts
• Happy to work shifts, weekends and public holidays in peak season

• Living within walking or taxi distance of the warehouse
• A valid forklift or reach truck certificate

• Staff canteen with subsidised meals
• Overtime paid at time-and-a-half on weekdays
• Safety boots, overalls and freezer jackets supplied

• Say clearly that you can work nights and weekends. Peak-season hiring goes to people who are available.
• Arrive for the interview in closed shoes. Some warehouses walk you through the floor straight away.
