Packaging Line Operator (Rotating Shifts)

Machines set the pace at this meat processing plant in Brackenfell; you keep up and catch the faults. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a meat processing plant in Brackenfell. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Move full bins and crates to the next station with a trolley
• Stop the line with the emergency stop if anything jams or looks unsafe
• Wear hairnets, beard covers and gloves in food-safe zones
• Weigh ingredients or additives against the recipe card
• Record batch codes and counts on the hourly production sheet
• Feed raw material or empty packaging into the machine at the start of the line
• Clean down machines and floors at the end of each run

• Basic reading and counting for batch sheets
• Neat, reliable and on time for shift start
• Medically fit; some food plants ask for a medical check
• Grade 10 minimum, matric an advantage

• Experience assisting on a packaging or filling machine
• A food handler or basic HACCP awareness certificate
• NQF Level 2 manufacturing learnership completed

• Staff shop with discounted factory products
• Free PPE, overalls and hairnets
• Night-shift allowance on top of basic pay

• Do not wear jewellery or long nails to the interview if it is on site. Food factories notice and it counts.
• Name the products you worked on before, like "biscuit line" or "juice bottling". Factory recruiters read that faster than a job title.
