Part-Time Bookkeeper (Small Business)

Recons that balance and suppliers who get paid right: that's the job at a wholesale distributor in Centurion. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is Centurion-based, with most of your time spent at a wholesale distributor. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Prepare VAT201 workings for the accountant to submit on SARS eFiling
• Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review
• Run petty cash and file slips with proper supporting documents
• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Reconcile creditors statements and sort out differences with suppliers

• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details

• Registered with SAIPA or the ICB as a bookkeeper
• Knowledge of Sage Evolution or QuickBooks

• Hybrid work after probation at some practices
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Office hours with no weekend work

• Say how far you take the books, for example "to trial balance" or "to management accounts"; it tells recruiters your level.
• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
