Paving Team Labourer

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a townhouse construction site in George can keep building. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is in George (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed

• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Grade 8 or higher
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area

• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
