Job Description

Hard outdoor work on a townhouse construction site in Stellenbosch, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a townhouse construction site on the Stellenbosch side of Western Cape. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What your day looks like

Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
Clear rubble and load it into skips
Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day

Must-haves

Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
Prepared to travel between sites in the area
Grade 8 or higher

Helpful, not essential

Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
Previous site work you can show with a reference
