Paving Team Labourer – Immediate Start

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a shopping centre renovation in Pietermaritzburg can keep building. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a shopping centre renovation on the Pietermaritzburg side of KwaZulu-Natal. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Clear rubble and load it into skips

• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Grade 8 or higher
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area

• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
