Pizza Chef (Wood-Fired Oven)

You'll cook fast, clean food on the line at a wood-fired pizzeria in Pretoria East. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Location: Pretoria East, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.
• Help cost recipes and track waste on the weekly sheet.
• Label, date and rotate stock using first-in, first-out.
• Log fridge and freezer temperatures twice a shift on the HACCP sheet.
• Plate to the spec photo so every dish looks the same.
• Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.

• Comfortable in heat, on your feet, for long split shifts
• Good knife skills and you can prep at speed
• 1 to 3 years in a busy commercial kitchen
• A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience
• Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal
• You take instruction from the head chef without drama

• A food safety certificate from a registered training provider
• Experience with combi ovens and batch cooking

• Chef whites and safety shoes provided
• Two staff meals per shift
• On-the-job training with a path to chef de partie

• Expect a trade test: bring your own knives, arrive early and clean as you go the whole time.
• List your stations (grill, pastry, cold, sauce) under each job; head chefs scan for this first.
